Sodium Nitroprusside Injection is a medicine used in the immediate treatment of hypertensive emergency (severely increased blood pressure) and acute heart failure. It brings about immediate reduction in blood pressure and workload of the heart.

Sodium Nitroprusside Injection is also used to keep the blood pressure low during a surgery in order to reduce blood loss. It works by relaxing the muscles in your blood vessels to help them widen. This lowers blood pressure and allows blood to flow more easily. It is administered as an injection by a doctor and should not be self administered. It requires continuous blood pressure monitoring.
